Dizziness can occur at many periods throughout life, and may or may not be related to specific incidents such as head trauma or illness. Two of the most common causes of dizziness are concussion or vertigo.

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that can be caused by a blow to the head or a whiplash-type injury.  You may or may not lose consciousness and you may feel residual symptoms even after what feels like a minor injury. This can even happen from “getting your bell rung”.

Unlike a concussion, vertigo does not require any degree of head injury to occur prior to symptoms. Vertigo is a symptom of dysfunction in your inner ear, or vestibular system, a system which lets your body know which way is up and what direction you’re moving. When parts of this system are impacted it can give you sensations of dizziness or spinning.

The idea of “rest is best” is no longer supported by leading research for the general treatment of dizziness or vestibular symptoms. No matter the cause of your symptoms, each patient requires a highly personalized rehab plan – allow us to help you return to feeling confident in all of your favorite activities! All of our staff have gone through further education to specialize in this type of care. All of our therapists are certified in Vestibular & Concussion Rehab by the American Institute of Balance.
